Many royal observers and critics were surprised that Queen Elizabeth reached out to Meghan Markle via her Instagram account to wish her a very happy birthday on Tuesday, August 4th. Sharing a throwback photo of one of the first royal engagements that Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle had together, the official Instagram account for The Royal Family captioned it with, “Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday! The Queen and The Duchess are pictured during a joint visit to Chester in 2018.”

Of course, it didn’t take very long for royal fans and social media followers to comment on the post. Quite a few people said it was rather thoughtful for the Queen to reach out to Meghan, despite all of the drama that has gone on between her and many other royal family members. Not only that, but a new book called Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of the Royal Family details some of the issues that Meghan apparently had while she was still behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace.
Some comments have included, “What a nice gesture, we hope you will support them more publicly,” along with, “Being the bigger person even though she doesn’t deserve any of it.”
Another fan wrote, “No thanks, she manipulated Harry and destroyed the relationship between him and his brother! No wishes for her! But then again it’s not surprising that the Queen always has class.”
