‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Braedyn Bruner, who plays Emma Scorpio Drake, and Giovanni Mazza, who plays Gio Palmeri on the soap, recently dished to Swoon magazine on the special bond between their characters.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Pair Started Holding Hands Off-Script In Scenes
Emma and Gio have taken a huge step in their relationship, and in the January 15th episode of GH, they shared their first time together.
Braedyn and Giovanni lent their personal touch to some of the most memorable scenes featuring their alter egos. Since the pair are very close in real life, that resonates on-screen.
Bruner admitted,
“We started adding our own things in earlier on. So, some of the stuff you saw back at the Nurses Ball in May, where I held his hand at the bridge, or any time that he’s held my hand, that kind of became our thing. The hand holding was something that was never written into the scenes.”
Mazza told Swoon,
“In that scene where Braedyn reaches out her hand to hold mine and she said, ‘Where you go, I go,’ they were like, ‘Wait, wait, we need to do that again. We need to get a shot of you guys holding hands.”
The actor added,
“Whenever we would feel like it, we would hold each other’s hands and be the shoulder to cry on. The fans were just obsessed with it, and then the writers were writing it in.”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Slow Burn Worked for Emma and Gio
Additionally, the young lovers appear to be carrying the torch for past fan-favorite young couples like Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCollough), in the sense that the bridge held sentimental meaning for them, too.
Bruner also added that some of her favorite scenes with Mazza were when the couple woke up in bed together the next day and discussed what the night before meant for their relationship. GH has struck gold with Emma and Gio.
The soap has also created a slow-burn for them, which saw them through a close friendship up to their first kiss, and now they have made it official.
Bruner explained,
“If we didn’t hang out outside the show or we weren’t as close, I feel like doing any sort of intimacy, whether that’s kissing or more, might feel much more terrifying or intimidating or uncomfortable.”
The pair definitely have a sweet chemistry and bring fresh energy to the show. That said, Bruner warned fans that there may be trouble ahead, not necessarily between Emma and Gio, but Gio will need to be there for Emma in the coming months.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Gio and Emma Never Hesitated to Help Each Other
Emma’s grandmother is missing, and she’s going to try to launch a search to find her. Of course, Emma’s grandmother is the one and only Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). She’s being held captive on Spoon Island right now.
The pair revealed that it’s going to be a year of ups and downs for Emma. She’s going to need Gio’s help navigating the choppy waters.
Remember, Gio didn’t hesitate to help Emma when she was on a mission to rescue those poor dogs that were being experimented on. Fortunately, they succeeded.
After all, Emma had stood by him when he found out that Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) were his birth parents.
Essentially, Gio and Emma have discovered they are each other’s true north. Mazza recognized they had to
“Solidify their relationship so Emma has this rock that she can always come to because I think she’s just going to go to new heights, on a journey of ups and downs, and hopefully, he will be there every step of the way.”
