Kate Middleton and Prince William arrived at the Royal Variety Performance tonight. It was a black-tie occasion for the royal couple.
The Princess of Wales dazzled in an elegant green velvet dress as the Prince of Wales looked dapper in his black and white tuxedo.
She accessorized with the late Queen’s diamond chandelier earrings and Queen Mary’s choker bracelet.
The Charity Established a Mental Health Initiative to Help Those Experiencing Mental Health Issues
William and Kate joined several celebrities for the annual charity event. The Royal Variety Charity helps those who have contributed professionally to the entertainment industry.
The Royal Variety Performance is an annual British institution and a crucial fundraising event that supports performers.
Kate Middleton and Prince William will meet with several performers and representatives from the charity prior to sitting down to enjoy the show.
In 2024, the charity established a mental health initiative to help people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health issues.
These issues are enhanced by financial insecurity and the unpredictability of employment in the entertainment business.
Supporting mental health is a cause close to Catherine and William’s hearts. Yesterday, Kate championed mental health awareness during motherhood by writing a letter to the Maternal Mental Health Alliance.
The heartfelt letter highlighted the importance of the charity’s new exhibition exploring mental health in motherhood. Kate Middleton is also a patron of the MMHA.
In her letter, she wrote,
“The MMHA continues to champion the voices of those navigating perinatal mental illness. Their new photographic exhibition, ‘This is also Motherhood’, explores the often unseen realities of mental health throughout pregnancy and beyond.”
At the Royal Variety Performance, Kate and William were introduced to Giles Cooper, the chairman of the Royal Variety Charity, as well as half a dozen executives from the charity and ITV, which produces the show.
Kate Chatted with Adorable Nine-Year-Old Twins about the Paddington Bear Musical
Before Catherine took her seat, she was gifted a posy of winter-themed flowers by adorable nine-year-old twins, Emile and Olivia Edwards.
The girls were chosen because one of their family members works at the event’s residential care home, Brinsworth House in Twickenham, west London, where the flowers came from.
Kate bent down to greet them and asked,
“Are you two fans of Paddington? My kiddies will be very sad to have missed the show. We are going to have to keep it a big secret. They were very, very sad not to be joining us.”
State trumpeters announced the Prince and Princess’s arrival in the Royal Box. The audience stood as Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins sang the national anthem.
The pair then watched as the cast of Paddington the Musical arrived onstage, along with pop star Jessie J and singer Laufey.
The new musical was adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books. The story brings to life the loveable bear, performed by remote puppeteer James Hameed and voiced by Arti Shah.
The Royal Variety Performance has a rich history in the UK. The first performance was held in 1912 at the Palace Theater in London, attended by King George VI and Queen Mary.
Last year, King Charles attended the show on behalf of the royal family. Kate and William last participated in the Royal Variety charity in 2023.
