‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal that Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie Jones on GH, recently shared the truth about her health condition and the reason for her move to Nashville with her daughter, Harper.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Storms Took A Hiatus From GH
Storms recently took a hiatus from the soap to adjust to her move and has opened up about her real-life health scare. She is set to undergo brain surgery for an aneurysm in her brain.
The actress explained in an emotional post on Instagram that in June 2021, she had an operation called a craniotomy to drain and remove cysts on her brain.
Since the surgery, Storms’ neurosurgeon has been monitoring the cysts he left on the brain after removing the problematic one. She had been experiencing severe back pain and migraines.
In January, Storms experienced these symptoms, prompting her to visit her doctor. Storms discovered it was a brain-related issue.
Storms said that she was shocked to learn that she had an aneurysm. She shared, “I had a procedure done that weekend, where the doctor threaded a camera from my leg up to my brain.”
She continued,
“It’s a routine procedure, but the path inside your body that they lead the camera through is insane. The camera goes through your armpit, guys. Your. Armpit.”
Storms added,
“Anyway, because of the slightly complex situation with the aneurysm. Nothing bad, but not typical. It wasn’t coiled that weekend.”
She continued,
“I checked in with my super smart surgeon, completed my next few months at work, started my hiatus, and left California.”
The actress said that Emme Rylan, who played the second Lulu Spencer, is her real-life BFF. Emme was apparently by Kirsten’s side “every single day” during the procedure, hospital stay, and recovery.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Storms Received Valuable Support From Emme Rylan
Emme was by Kirsten’s side when she woke up. Rylan said, “How are you? Do you still love yarn?” Her neurosurgeon laughed at the joke.
Storms added, so here I am with Emme, in St. Louis, and we are crocheting the most beautiful sweaters, while my coiling procedure is being scheduled for some time in the next two weeks.”
Kirsten is currently taking a break from her role as Maxie Jones, as her character landed in a coma after a heart attack. Maxie was poisoned by Deception face cream courtesy of Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).
Maxie has been lingering in a coma at a long-term care facility in Boston. The soap is building a huge story around Maxie waking up and discovering that her husband, Nathan West (Ryan Peavy), is alive. That is, if it even is Nathan.
Kirsten continued to open up about her health ordeal,
“Emotional support, when going through times in life that cause worry, is crucial.”
She shared,
“Aneurysms can be caused by stress. Brain cysts? I believe that is possible, too. And since the January scan showed a new, but very small squatter (aka cyst), on my brain stem.”
Storms divulged,
“It was clear I needed to change some things in my life ASAP. For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me.”
She concluded,
“The biggest reason for the move was Harper, but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my own happiness.”
