‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers reveal that the next couple of weeks will be emotionally charged as we prepare to say goodbye to the legendary character John Black, who was played by the late, iconic actor Drake Hogestyn.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Hogestyn Passed Away In September 2024
Hogestyn passed away on September 28, 2024. The soap, which tapes six to eight months in advance, is just now airing the death of John. He was one of its most memorable characters.
John will always be remembered as a hero and someone who wouldn’t hesitate to put his life on the line to save another human being.

When Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) needed a helping hand, Steve knew exactly who to call. He contacted his longtime best friend and business partner, John.
We saw a mysterious hooded figure show up outside the meth lab to bypass the security system and break in and retrieve Dr. Jeffrey Russell’s (Michael Dietz) miracle drug, Versavix, which was developed to treat sepsis. The figure was revealed to be John, whose signature catchphrase, “And that’s a fact,” gave him away.
Unfortunately, there was a surprise attacker in the lab who went after John. An explosion occurred, resulting in John sustaining horrific burns and various injuries.
We watched the May 23rd episode of Days in which John coded as his beloved Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), and Steve watched helplessly as John coded in his hospital bed, and Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) tried to save him. She’ll revive him with only enough time for him to say goodbye to his friends and family.

Sadly, we all know what the outcome will be as John’s funeral will air within the next couple of weeks. His loved ones are on their way to say their goodbyes.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Marlena Knows Her Time With John Is Coming To An End
Carrie Brady (Christie Clark), Eric Brady (Greg Vaughn), and Will Horton (Chandler Massey) return to town next week to say prayers for John as they beg him to live.
However, they know his prognosis doesn’t look promising. Marlena will lay with him in his hospital bed, realizing their time together is coming to an end. John was on his mission for so long, but he got to be a hero one poignant final time.
John saved the day not only for Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) but also for numerous other people who may benefit from Versavix. He protected the vials of the drug with his body.

John was known for his extreme acts of heroism, but the one constant Marlena had hung onto for decades was that no matter what the mission, John would come home to her.
This time, though, that’s not the case. No doubt, Steve and Shawn will likely blame themselves for John’s death.
On a positive note, we’ll also see Bo wake up. He’s been lingering in a coma ever since Shawn shot him. Shawn mistakenly believed that he was going to harm his mother, Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso).
While Bo’s awakening will be a miracle. John’s death is a tragedy. We can only imagine how the actors involved in the story feel. They are reliving the death of Drake Hogestyn.
