‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers suggest that the reveal of who kidnapped Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) was a bust.
‘The Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: Martin Is Not The Twin Who Perished
Just when we thought Y&R couldn’t get any more unoriginal, the soap confirmed that the person who held Phyllis and Sharon hostage in the abandoned mental facility was Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins), Alan Laurent’s (Christopher Cousins) evil twin brother.
It was thought that when the twins fought in Paris after Alan realized Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) had been spending time with his deranged twin, the two of them fought, and it was believed that Martin fell off the balcony outside his room.

It looks like Martin is still alive, and it was Alan who perished. Martin has apparently been posing as Alan and fooling Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland).
We suspected the person who committed this crime was Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc). At least that would have explained the desire for Phyllis and Sharon to bury the hatchet.
The story feels almost too predictable as the only idea that would have been worse is if Ian Ward (Ray Wise) were the one to kidnap the two longtime rivals.
The “plot twist” felt haphazardly thrown together because of the lack of a better option. Why in the world would Martin want to kidnap Phyllis and Sharon? Theories are circulating that he’s into psychological games. Literally.
That still doesn’t explain why he would care about Phyllis and Sharon’s decades-long rivalry. Psychological control?
Martin has no connection to either one of them other than that Alan supposedly hypnotized Sharon to help her remember what really happened the night Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) was murdered.
‘The Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: It’s Cruel To Break Traci’s Heart Over This Ridiculous Story
Y&R also tends to repeat stories a lot. First, they were obsessed with mental health stories, with most of them being poorly written. Now, it seems that kidnapping is their go-to narrative.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sharon was stuck down in the sewer, fighting for survival. Are we expected to believe that Sharon has been kidnapped twice? In less than a month? By two different culprits? It’s insulting to the viewers.
It’s amazing that Y&R still ranks number one in the ratings. It is boring for many viewers who tune into Y&R every weekday to see the same thing over and over again.
The only good thing that came out of the whole debacle was Michelle Stafford and Sharon Case’s stellar acting and comedic timing.
It was funny to watch them bond as they trashed the place. Yet, the kidnapping aspect is still tired and redundant. It takes a solid actress to be able to pull off this nonsense.

The other flaw in the story is that Traci Abbott’s happiness is now stolen from her. Traci finally found someone to love and was worthy of her, and now, that will all be ripped away.
While soaps need drama and conflict, it seems cruel to break Traci’s heart for the sake of this ridiculous story. Y&R needs some fresh ideas and shun kidnapping from the writing room for at least a good long while.
