‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers confirm that Evan Hofer, who played Dex Heller on the soap, is leaving GH. His character met his untimely demise on Friday, December 13.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Dex Confronted Cyrus Over His Whereabouts On Halloween
Hofer has played the role since May 5, 2022. GH has described this as a storyline-dictated move, as it is heavily speculated that Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) killed Dex to silence him.
Earlier in the week, Dex confronted Cyrus about his whereabouts on Halloween when he murdered Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco). Dex thought Cyrus was trying to get to Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins).
Not long after he spoke to Cyrus, he was stabbed in the lower back. It was probably a ploy to get him into the hospital so Cyrus could “finish the job.”
Cyrus gave Sam a lethal dose of digitalis, which caused her to have a heart attack. They spent a half hour trying to revive her to no avail.
Dex suffered the same fate, as he also had a fatal heart attack, and all arrows point to Cyrus. He’s tried convincing everyone in Port Charles that he was a changed man, but his redemption was obviously fake.
Cyrus also wanted to send Lulu to a long-term care facility in South Carolina before she woke up. He is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his secret about what happened on Halloween night.
Not only that, beforehand, “someone” was messing with Lulu’s ventilator in the hospital. Cyrus is likely behind that, as well.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Joss Will Be Devastated
Cyrus could be convinced he’s doing God’s work by “sending” them to him. Or maybe he wanted to reunite Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu to make amends with her.
He’s responsible for the bomb that went off at the Floating Rib, which led to her head injury that inevitably put her in a coma. It will be interesting to see how the writers explain exactly why Cyrus has been harming innocent people.
Hofer explained,
“I found out probably a few weeks before we filmed the scene.” “Honestly, I was just excited to find out what the story was going to be and wanted to hear how that was going to go.”
“So my last few weeks were really just trying to soak in how much I loved playing Dex, and how much I loved all the people over at GH,”
He continued.
“I had such a wonderful time over there in the last two and a half years, and I was just trying to make sure that I do justice to the character in those final episodes.”
Hofer credits Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on GH, for being an incredible mentor to him. When he landed the role of Dex, he was paired with several actors he respects immensely.
His on-screen chemistry with Benard and Eden McCoy, who played his girlfriend, Josslyn Jacks, was off the charts. Fans rooted for Joss and Dex as a couple, or “Jex,” which is their nickname.
Dex’s death was a shocking twist, and Joss will be the character most affected. Dex will be missed on the canvas as “Jex” fans face a crushing blow.
