The top aide to Prince William and his right-hand man, Rob Dixon, is stepping down after four years of service. He shared a message on LinkedIn, saying it was “time to move on” from his role as equerry. This is a big shake-up for the future King, as the equerry is one of the most critical positions in the royal household.
Dixon Played “A Small Part” In Several Historic Royal Events
Officers from one of the three branches of the Armed Forces choose equerries to help senior royals with their public duties. They help prepare official diaries and organize public engagements.
In his message, Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon exclaimed,
“I’ve had the most incredible opportunity to serve in a role that not only challenged me but allowed me to grow, learn, and make meaningful contributions alongside a talented and passionate team.”
Rob went on to describe being “immensely grateful” for the “support, collaboration, and friendship” he received during his four-year tenure.
Dixon gushed at the honor he had to play “a small part” in the April 2021 funeral of Prince Phillip, the June 2022 Platinum Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth, the September 2022 funeral of our wonderful late Queen, and the May 2023 Coronation of a new Monarch. He also expressed gratitude for participating in several other historic royal events.
Rob talked about engagements in which everyone was involved and when he was the one to “call the shots.”
“It’s now time to swap the top hat and tails for daily working rig once again, and it’s the right thing to do,”
He explained. wanted to hand the role over to
“an enthusiastic fresh set of eyes.”
“The aim of any military role should be to serve, lead, and support your team, strive for success, then move onwards and upwards; I’m excited to do just that,”.
He continued.
Dixon commented that he was
“grateful to everyone who played their part alongside me in ‘Team Cambridge’ and ‘Team Wales.’ ”
“I wish you all fair winds and following seas,”
He concluded.
Prince William And Dixon Got Along Famously
Squad Leader Mike Reynolds, a helicopter pilot from the Royal Air Force, will be Prince William’s new equerry. The family assigned Dixon to the Royal Household in September 2020. He is exiting his role as equerry to return to his post in the Royal Navy, where he’s served for about twenty-four years.
Prince William and Dixon got along famously, as they are both helicopter fanatics. He has held an impressive list of roles, including Wildcat HMA, Mk2 Pilot, and Helicopter Instructor.
In 2015, he was awarded a Green Endorsement. According to Daily Mail, he was
“Being commended for the speed of thought, judgment, and total professionalism, with which he dealt with a compounding series of circumstances.”
Queen Elizabeth appointed the first black man to hold the equerry, Army Major Nana Kofi Twumasi Ankrah. He was also the first black officer to be assigned to the Household Calvary, her Majesty’s official bodyguard, and a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Perhaps the most famous equerry was the dashing war hero Captain Peter Townsend. King George VI trusted him as his right-hand man. However, he was most well-known for his forbidden romance with Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret.
