The royal family is known for their regal and resolved manner, as many people mistake their staunch dedication and unwavering commitment to the monarchy as being pompous and often humorless.

Queen Elizabeth Loved Her Adorable Corgis

It may come as a surprise to some that they love and are devoted to their animals. While most of us will never understand the tremendous loyalty the royals have to the crown, we all love our pets, and that’s universal.

An article about the royal pets of the royal family wouldn’t be complete without talking about Queen Elizabeth’s enduring love of corgis.

    The Queen and her Corgis

The late Queen’s fondness for the breed is synonymous with her, as it’s one of a thousand reasons she was so beloved. She adored animals.

Queen Elizabeth’s first dog that she owned herself was named Susan, the pup was born in 1944, and she lived until 1959. “I had always dreaded losing her,” the Queen once said.

Her Majesty owned more than thirty corgi descendants of Susan, all of whom the Queen doted upon and loved.

She loved her corgis so much that at her funeral procession, her two corgis, Sandy and Muick, came to pay their respects to their beloved master as they patiently waited at Windsor Castle to welcome her to her final resting place.

In addition to having corgis as part of the royal family, she also owned countless horses. She had a couple of horses who were her favorite.

The Queen rode her horse, Burmese, in Trooping the Color for eighteen years. He lived to be 28 and is buried on the grounds of the Home Park private.

Her Majesty’s Pony, Emma, Was A Faithful Riding Companion

The late Queen’s favorite and final riding pony was Emma. Like the monarch’s Corgis, her horse, Emma, paid her respects during the Queen’s funeral procession.

Emma was seen standing alongside the floral tributes left for her owner. She bowed her head as the Queen’s hearse passed. For fifteen years, the Queen rode Emma on the ground around Windsor Castle, and apparently, her faithful riding companion never forgot her.

King Goerge V had a fine feathered friend, as he was often in the company of his parrot. Before he became King, George V served in the Royal Navy. When he came ashore, he purchased a grey African parrot, whom he named Charlotte.

The former King’s great love for Charlotte was well-known. Otherwise, he displayed little emotion. He taught his bird to say, “God Save The King.” Queen Elizabeth fed and played with the parrot as a young girl.

King Charles And Camilla’s Rescue Pups

King Charles and Queen Camilla have two Jack Russell terriers, Beth and Bluebell. She adopted both dogs in 2017. A spokesperson for Camilla said that Bluebell, in particular, had a sad start in life.

“She was just four weeks old when she was found by a member of the public in quite a bad way. She had lost a lot of hair, and her skin was pink and sore. The Duchess was delighted to take her on.”

Meghan Markle has an adorable beagle named Guy, who she rescued in 2015 when it was days shy of being put down. He came with her to live in the UK when she was a working royal.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry adopted Sinkie

Prince Harry and Meghan also inherited a chicken named “Sinkie,” from their good friend, Ellen DeGeneres. “Sinkie” lives in the Sussex’s royal chicken coop. All their hens were rescued from a factory farm.

The Royal Family Loves Cats Too

Princess Michael of Kent is a cat person. She has always kept Oriental cats, as Burmese and Siamese cats are her favorite. Cats have been a big part of her life since she was a little girl, and a stray kitten captured her heart.

Queen Victoria had a Collie named Sharp. He was smooth-haired and the perfect comfort to the grieving Queen after her husband, Prince Albert, died. The pup would have all his meals with Queen Victoria and seldom left her side.

    William And Kate’s Fluffy Friends

Prince William and Kate Middleton had a beautiful black cocker spaniel named Lupo, whom they received as a wedding present in 2011.

Lupo was a wonderful family pup who adored Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. He passed away in 2020. Wales adopted one of her brother, James Middleton’s dogs, Orla, in 2021.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also have a little hamster named Marvin. He’s fluffy and cute as a button. It’s believed that the tiny creature was named after Goerge’s favorite book, “Marvin Wanted More,” about a sheep who wants to be bigger so he can run fast and jump as high as the other sheep.

During an appearance last spring at Woodgate Valley Urban Farm, William told the kids that his family has pet guinea pigs.

    He said,

“I spend my life cleaning out the guinea pig cage because the children forget to do it. The ones we’ve got at home, they’re off. You have to keep them constantly stroked and looked after.”
