Prince Harry was offered free accommodations at Buckingham Palace during his last trip to the UK, but he chose to stay in a hotel instead.
The Palace Would Offer Harry All The Security He Could Wish For
The Duke of Sussex was in London in May to mark the tenth centenary of the Invictus Games. It was previously reported that King Charles was “too busy” to see Harry.
However, it has now been revealed that the monarch generously extended an invitation to Harry, but he declined. A source close to the Palace commented,
“I don’t know what more the King could have done. He offered Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace, but that it seems wasn’t good enough.”
“It makes Harry’s decision to stay at a hotel all the more strange when the Palace would naturally offer all the security you could wish for,”
the source disclosed.
Representatives for Harry made it seem like the King blew him off. However, the whole issue may be related to Harry’s taxpayer-funded security being downgraded after he stepped down as a working royal.
Obviously, it would have been much easier for Charles to see his son had he lodged nearby. Sources close to Harry said the Duke requested to see his father long before his travel plans were cemented.
They also claim that Harry had notified Charles, saying he intended to visit with him during his stay. There was hope for a reunion between Harry and the King for the first time since February when Harry flew to Britain to see Charles after learning of his father’s cancer diagnosis.
They met briefly at Clarence House before Charles left for Sandringham. Reports illustrated that the King only met with Harry for less than an hour.
Prince Harry Thinks Charles Can Help Him With His Security Issues
Royal protocol requires Prince Harry to give 28 days’ notice to the King and Home Office to request security. It was also said that the King had already arranged for Harry’s security before his visit, but the Duke rejected the invitation.
Sources for Harry alleged Charles would not make a place in his diary for him. Reports also claimed that Harry wanted to meet with his father to discuss security issues.
It was thought that the King was trying to avoid the conversation, but it looks like this wasn’t the case. The Duke mistakenly believes that his father can only help him with the security row.
Harry has said several times that the UK is “too dangerous” for his wife and children, yet he is off with Meghan Markle on a quasi-royal tour in Columbia.
The US and the UK have issued a travel advisory warning against traveling to certain parts of Columbia. Amid security concerns and fears for his family’s safety, it seems odd that he did not stay at the Palace on his father’s invitation yet travel to Columbia on Vice President Francia Maquez’s invitation.
Harry specifically said in court that he won’t bring Meghan back to the UK,
“I cannot put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to put myself in harm’s way too unnecessarily.”
