Harry introduced the first Invictus Games in 2014, held in London. The games aim to help wounded, sick, or disabled veterans by having them compete in various sports, helping them feel more confident, and allowing them to see what they can achieve.
Since 2014, the Invictus Games have exploded in popularity, and twenty-two countries have participated. The royal family has not publicly discussed the Invictus Games for several years.
The event is near and dear to Harry’s heart. According to the Daily Mail,
“It is one of his last remaining legacies from when he was a full-time working royal.”
The Invictus Games is also essential to Harry because he was in the British Royal Army and served his country for ten years.
Harry and Meghan’s presence in the UK would present a question of whether the couple and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilabet, would move back into Frogmore Cottage for the duration of the games.
It would be the first time the Invictus Games returned to the UK since Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in January 2020.
Meghan’s anxiety about returning to the UK may keep her from supporting Harry. However, Meghan is registered as a visitor for the future Invictus Games 10th-anniversary celebration in London.
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield says,
“The Invictus Games, along with their royal association, are two of the only things that give Prince Harry and Meghan Markle credibility.”
The Royal Family Should Be Weary of Harry and Meghan
Recently, Harry lost in the High Court against the Home Office over a decision to downgrade his security when he visits the UK.
The government said that Harry’s claim should be dismissed at a hearing in December. The government will consider Duke’s protection on a case-by-case basis, and the perceived risk will determine it.
Harry wants to appeal the ruling. He claims the situation has made it difficult for him to come to the UK. Harry wants his children to feel “at home” when they visit the UK. He concluded that without proper protection,
“it’s not possible to keep them safe.”
The Duke said he did not want to recreate his mother’s incidents and that this situation would put him and his wife at risk.
“I cannot put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way, too.”
The Home Office won the High Court battle. If Harry comes to the UK for the Invictus Games, he is not entitled to taxpayer-funded police protection because he is no longer a working royal. If Harry wants security, he must pay for it himself.
The royal family must seriously consider whether to extend an invitation to Harry. Given the state of the monarchy, Harry has caused negative publicity. The Royal Family needs to be very careful regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
