‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Joshua Benard, who plays Adam Wright on GH, dishes on why Adam is so troubled.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Joshua is Developing Layers to His Character
Joshua Benard gives Soap Opera Digest the scoop:
“A lot of what he is going through and what I understand about him, I’ve had to draw from other people close to me that I know,”
Benard explains.
“He’s not a character that I can draw from my experience. My dad (Maurice Benard) has ‘If you can’t use yourself, use the people around you. And what Adam is going through is similar to someone I know.”
The meat of Adam’s character is starting to show, and viewers see his vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
When he first came on the show, he came onto Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) pretty strong, and the fans thought he was a creep. Now, Adam is a real person with thoughts, feelings, and a host of problems.
Benard says that Adam acted the way he did initially because of all his problems with his parents. He didn’t know how to act around Joss and just behaved stupidly.
These days, Joss has come to care about Adam, and she cares about his well-being. The viewers see her trying to get through to Adam as someone compassionate and supportive.
Adam sees Joss as someone who doesn’t judge him or put pressure on him the way his parents do. She is like an anchor for him. She listens to him and wants to help.
Adam, of course, has a crush on Joss. But he may find himself in a situation where she rejects him and doesn’t know how to handle it.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Adam Doesn’t Want to Disappoint His Parents
Adam’s biggest fear is disappointing his parents, and Joss understands that. Soon, we will meet Adam’s father and get into what makes him want to pressure Adam about school and his grades.
Steve Mize will be playing the role of Adam’s father. He has never been on GH, but viewers who like to visit Salem may recognize Mize from Days of Our Lives.
Mize played the role of Dr. Pierce, who was a shady physician who lied to Nicole Walker DiMera (Arianne Zucker) and told her that her baby had died.
In May, Mize shared on Instagram that he went on daytime television to play this role. He alluded to an upcoming appearance on another soap but did not say which one.
Now, GH viewers know that Adam’s father is coming to Port Charles. It’s also under the most inopportune circumstances. Adam has just overdosed on pills and vodka. He is in a very bad way.
All the while, Joshua’s famous father, Maurice Benard, has been supporting him throughout his acting journey. His father confessed that Joshua’s script was a tough one.
For example, Joshua had to know medical terms, and Maurice told his son,
“That’s hard. I don’t even think I could do that.”
Joshua has been trying to make his portrayal of a college student going off the rails as realistic as possible. He’s been doing a great job and making his father very proud.
