There is no denying the powerful presence of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) on ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers and her extremely loud fan base.
Everyone knows that Laura Wright is an extremely talented actress, and her character has evolved from being very selfish and destructive to becoming almost like a heroine.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Why Carly is Such a Popular Character
Some fans have protested that Wright’s character is too prominent, and the show seems to revolve around her.
However, ‘General Hospital’ viewer’s favorite vixen, Carly, has gone from being the ‘General Hospital’ character we all loved to hate to being very rootable and multi-layered.
When Sarah Joy Brown played Carly (1996 to 2001), she had come to Port Charles to break up her mother Bobbie Spencer’s (Jacklyn Zeman) marriage to Tony Jones (Brad Maule).
She wanted to get revenge on her mother for giving her away when she was born. Much to fans’ chagrin, she succeeded.
Back then, it was easy to detest Carly. She was the town pariah.
Once Tamara Braun (2001 to 2005) stepped into the role, she brought a layer of refreshing vulnerability to Carly, yet the character remained a force to be reckoned with.
Jennifer Bransford briefly played Carly (2005), but fans never took a shine to her portrayal.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Laura Wright’s Version of Carly
Then came Laura Wright. (2005 to present) She made the role of General Hospital’s Carly her own. Laura brings a sense of maturity and strength to the role that no other actress could bring.
Carly is a fierce mama bear to her kids and would give the world for them. One of the best traits Carly has is that she loves with everything in her.
The best two examples of this are her relationships with her ex-husband, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and her ride-or-die friendship with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
We have also seen Carly evolve from being a friend to no woman (except maybe Sonny’s sister, Courtney) to having some of the most interesting and surprising friendships on the show.
Her recent scenes with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) prove that the character has matured and become capable of change for the better.
Carly’s complicated relationship with Sonny is one of the major hot topics among GH fans. Some fans love Carly and Sonny together, while others enjoy the pairing of Sonny with Nina (Cynthia Watros).
New Love and Life for Carly
Carly and Drew (Cameron Mathison) are now a breath of fresh air on GH and complement each other very well.
While fans are still clamoring for a Sonny and Carly reunion, there is no harm in enjoying Carly and Drew for being the simply sweet and romantic couple they are for as long as the GH writers allow them to last.
Drew also gets points for showing a softer, more lighthearted side to Carly that viewers do not always get to see.
Carly is also highly loyal to Sonny, and when Carly was presented with the opportunity for her to turn against him to help herself, she was completely opposed to the idea.
Carly would never turn Sonny into the feds to save herself.
Another rootable trait of Carly is her independence.
She does not take handouts and even sleeps in jail to keep Sonny from bailing her out when she and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) were arrested at the High Sider.
Carly has stated many times that she will get back everything she lost. She is nothing if not highly determined.
Once the woman makes up her mind about something, there is no talking her out of it.
Smart as a whip, Carly bought Kelly’s for a dollar intending to pay her mother, Bobbie, back the total market value.
Carly is determined to make a fresh start and a name for herself.
True to form, Carly had her name changed from Corinthos to Spencer for a reason. She wanted to work hard and prove that there was life after Sonny.
Tune into General Hospital to see what Carly does next.
