In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Collin Gosselin, oldest son of Jon and Kate Gosselin, former reality TV stars of Jon & Kate Plus 8, spoke out about what it was like growing up in a household dedicated to a reality TV show.
If it seems like it would be an easy existence, you’d be wrong because according to not only Collin, but his sister, Hannah, he and Kate had a very tumultuous relationship and Collin ended up institutionalized at the age of 12. He also said that he spent his 13th and 14th birthdays in this institution as well, and Kate Gosselin has described her son as “special needs”.

It would seem that Jon Gosselin had to actually go to court to get full custody of his son because when he was instutionalized Collin would write him letters begging him to come and save him, telling him he still loved him and saying that he had asked Kate if he could go live with him and Kate apparently said no initially. But something had to have changed because at the custody hearing, Kate Gosselin didn’t end up showing up and Jon ended up getting full legal custody of his son.
Hannah, the other daughter, also lives with Jon and said that there was a lot of “unfair treatment” in her Mother’s home and that Collin often “took the front of that”. We’re not sure what she means by that exactly, and when asked about it Collin says that he thinks that its sad that his Mother think of him as “special needs” but also says that he thinks that Kate probably has “her own agenda” when it comes to the reasons why she instutitionalized him.
Judging from just the interview, Collin Gosselin seems like a pretty typical young adult male to us, it’s not ever elaborated on as to what kind of behavior Kate seemed to think fell under the category of “special needs”, but we do know that for awhile there Jon and Kate were at each other’s throats.
Sometimes during divorce proceedings, the kids end up suffering and one wonders if perhaps Kate’s anger could have been misdirected at this one child who, maybe didn’t behave perfectly all the time. That’s what speculation says, but we’ll keep an eye out for the real story. Stay tuned!!!
