Authorities investigating the death of a 22-year-old man on vacation in Mykonos who died horribly after being struck by helicopter blades believe it may have been a tragic photo opportunity gone wrong. The Sun reported that Jack Fenton and his three friends recently disembarked from their rented black Bell 407 helicopter after returning from the Greek island.
They were removed from the vehicle and taken to a private lounge where they awaited a plane to return them to London. However, Jack quickly started walking back toward the helicopter as others yelled at him to do so.
Man Dies After Walking Into The Blades Of A Helicopter While On Vacation
He had a phone in his ear as he moved toward the back of the helicopter, where the blade was still spinning; there, he was stuck in the head, instantly killing him, according to witnesses who spoke to Greece’s committee for aviation accidents.
The incident was only described as “horrific” by those who witnessed it. Along with 2 ground technicians, the helicopter’s “deeply traumatized” pilot was detained. Cops are looking into every possibility, which reportedly includes “the possibility of the boy going there to take a selfie in the excitement of the moment.”
When their pilot asked for emergency permission to abort the landing in an effort to spare Jack’s parents the horrifying sight of their son, the pilot of the second helicopter that was en route to the same tarmac took them to Athens Airport instead.
It appears as if he was paying much more attention to his phone than his surroundings and tragedy struck. We wish the best for his family in this terribly tragic time. Rest in peace.
