The next James Bond does not necessarily need to be a woman, but Ana de Armas wants Bond girls to be given “substantial” roles. The actress spoke to the Sun in an interview saying, “There’s no need for a female Bond. There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over.”

She continued to explain that, “This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.” While there isn’t a need for a female James Bond, she does like that the female roles are shone in a different light, “What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way,” she said, adding, “That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”

Despite being widely publicized as a star in the 2021 film, De Armas was famously seen in Daniel Craig’s final Bond movie, “No Time to Die,” where she had a meager five minutes of screen time. She wore a seductive backless dress with a potentially dangerously plunging neckline while playing CIA agent Paloma, who teams up with Bond on a mission in Havana.
Despite the briefness of her cameo, de Armas’ performance was praised.

I know after watching the film, I was left wondering what happened to her character and if we would see her again. She did an excellent job and with all the rumors and discussions happening about a female James Bond, I think Ana hit the nail on the head. There are plenty of characters for strong women and there’s no need to change an existing character.
