Comedian Andrew Schulz refused to bow down to the censors for Amazon, deciding to release his new special on his own and it’s already paid off by more than $1 million. Schulz recently explained that the folks at the streaming service were freaking out when they watched the material he wanted to include in his next special.

The topics ranged from Ted Bundy, abortion, and Michael Jackson. He claimed that they told him to remove the sensitive stuff or they wouldn’t release it on their platform. Schulz wasn’t having any of it, and decided instead to release on his own.

Schulz released the special for his fans through his website at $15 a ticket and on the first day alone he made $500,000 in sales and well over $1 million in less than a week. According to some sources, they think he’ll make more than his deal with Amazon in the first place.

He’s partnered with Moment House to sell his tickets — the same company behind Justin Bieber and Kygo shows — and we’re told he’s already broken sales records.

Schulz continues to be one of the hottest-selling comedians in recent years and watching him go on his own, break away from a streaming giant and simply sell tickets his own way is a huge statement for comedians everywhere. Of course, you need a fan base to be able to do something like this, but it’s another option that maybe people didn’t realize they had.

Congratulations to Andrew Schulz, he’s personally become one of my favorite comedians, and I love that he’s continuing to be as successful as he is! Check out his new special on his site and preorder your tickets for the showing on July 17th at 8 PM CDT.
