In a post on social media, the 40-year-old said: “I believe I may have had the most surreal, mind blowing, humbling five days of my life. I cannot thank you for your generosity at launching the @bowelbabefund which now stands at £5.7 million, and to the @dukeandduchessofcambridge for going above and beyond to make a very special memory happen yesterday. Can’t quite believe I’m actually a Dame!”

Deborah James became a notable name in the U.K. thanks to her work on the You, Me, and the Big C podcast, which she hosted for BBC Radio to open up about her struggles with bowel cancer.

The star and author, who was handed her diagnosis just days before Christmas, took to her Instagram last week to reveal that she no longer knows how long she has left as she opened up about her fight, that has seen her health deteriorate in recent months.

Sharing the latest update on her health, the mum-of-two revealed that her ‘body isn’t playing ball’ and announced she has been moved to hospice care at home to spend time with her family. She penned: “The message I never wanted to write. We have tried everything, but my body simply isn’t playing ball. My active care has stopped and I am now moved to hospice at home care, with my incredible family all around me and the focus is on making sure I’m nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8htq2i2WSMkot in pain and spending time with them.”

She added, “Nobody knows how long I’ve got left but I’m not able to walk, I’m sleeping most of the days, and most things I took for granted are pipe dreams. I know we have left no stone unturned. “But even with all the innovative cancer drugs in the world or some magic new breakthrough, my body just can’t continue anymore. In over 5 years of writing about how I thought it would be my final Christmas, how I wouldn’t see my 40th birthday nor see my kids go to secondary school – I never envisaged writing the one where I would actually say goodbye.”
