You can’t blame them from wanting to stay out of the drama. Prince William and Kate Middleton had absolutely nothing to say after they were asked about Prince Harry’s comments in wanting to make sure that the “right people” were around Queen Elizabeth. Here’s what you need to know.
The Duke of Sussex appeared to issue a veiled warning to those closest to the Monarch, saying he wanted to make sure his grandmother was “protected” and had “the right people around her.” However, Harry did not elaborate on whether he was referring to royal aides or members of his own family, but spoke positively about seeing the Queen with “some element of privacy” after two years away from the UK.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Are Staying Quiet Over Prince Harry’s Latest Comments
When directly asked by a reporter who Harry was referring to, as they headed to celebrations marking the Queen’s 96th birthday, neither William nor Kate gave an answer. The royal family have rallied round the Queen since her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, died last April, and she has been supported by a smaller and closer-knit group from her household during the lockdowns of the past two years.
Meanwhile, Harry and wife Meghan spent Easter Sunday morning at the athletics track and were in the front row for the sitting volleyball as the first full day of competition began in The Hague. The couple watched the action next to Jaco Van Gass – a Paralympian gold medallist and former Invictus competitor who suffered life-changing injuries with the British Army.
Van Gass left his home in South Africa to pursue a military career 16 years ago, but was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan in 2009 while serving with the Parachute Regiment and lost his left arm at the elbow. He met Harry in 2011 when the duke joined the record-breaking team of wounded soldiers he was part of that trekked unsupported to the North Pole.
Van Gass said: “Invictus is his family, basically. There’s so many familiar faces that he’s not seen in a while, and again to all the nations, just to catch up with them again. He’s back with his own people, he’s back in an environment that he’s so natural in and that he cares about. I think that’s the most important thing – this great depth of care that he has for the games.”
