The appearance during yesterday’s Halloween episode came as a complete surprise. Rumors had been flying for a long time, but no one officially confirmed Nikolas’ resurrection ahead of the episode. In fact, as of a couple hours of the episode airing, there was still no official mentions of the casting. This is an impressive move in the social media era. Most news travels fast, as there’s always someone behind the scenes ready to spill. It was pulled off well, but there’s a downside to this.

Ava Jerome (Maura West) was the first character to come into contact with him. She’d caught him in her gallery and forced him to unmask himself at gunpoint. That’s where things get bad.
Ava ends up passing out when she sees his face. She wakes up at her desk on the November 1st episode, confused that she’s alone. She desperately searches for him, but he’s nowhere to be seen. Obviously, this shakes her.

Of course, Ava does the most logical thing in that situation and tells Laura Webber (Genie Francis). Laura is obviously skeptical and thinks that Ava has been drinking again. This is reinforced when Nikolas is nowhere to be seen on the security footage. She is worried about Ava and calls Julian Jerome (William deVry).

This move by Nikolas might serve his purposes for the moment, but it’s got Ava in a bad spot. The lack of Nikolas on the footage makes her think she might have hallucinated it after all. With Laura and Julian’s support, Ava ends up checking into Shadybrook. This poor girl has had a rough time of late, and it’s only getting worse. We are looking forward to her reaction when Nikolas’ return is out in the open.
