‘Survivor 42’ spoilers find that in a 26 day fast-forwarded game, there’s no time for a ton of what used to be thought of as essentials- opening credits, “previously on Survivor” recaps and countless sunset shots as the Survivors ruminate over their fallen castaways before heading into final tribal to get ripped a new one by those same ousted comrades- aka, the jury.

Another dropped tradition is showing how the merged tribe got its new name.

However, after Entertainment Weekly got their hands on a deleted scene, we now know Kula Kula, season 42’s eleven person merged tribe was the brain child of Canadian veterinarian, Omar Zaheer.

‘Survivor 42’ Spoilers: The Merged Tribe Is Born- But How Did Kula Kula Get Its Name?

In the scene, the tribe was seen tossing out ideas as usual. Omar then regaled the group with an ornithology lesson, telling his fellow castaways, “The national bird of Fiji is the collared lory, which in Fijian is kula, which is k-u-l-a.”

The tribe instantly took to Omar’s idea, in fact they liked Kula so much they decided to double it up!  With that, Kula Kula was born.

Omar was then seen speaking in a confessional “I want to name the tribe Kula Kula,” he said. “The bird is called the kula, but the tribe wanted to double it and make it cooler, Kula Kula, and I’m coola coola with that, so…”

So, if you didn’t already think Omar was going to win the whole dang season, that awesome pun should solidify things.

Omar, the man who wears a picture of an Emu on his shirt expanded further, “Kula is the national bird of Fiji, which is the collared lory. It’s a type of parrot that feeds on flowers and nectars and fruits. It’s something I work with and love every day so it’s a little bit of home out here. It was important for me to get that out there because I love birds so much and can paint the flag with a bird pattern and just be reminded of home and reminded of why I’m here.”

Paint the flag he did. Omar may not be joining the Canadian Olympic diving team anytime soon, but the man can draw and paint!

“This might be the best tribe flag in Survivor history,” Chanelle gushed (the flattery did not save her) while Hai marveled, “They’re going to auction this off.”

To be fair, they auction off pretty much anything seen on the show, but the flag may fetch a little more than usual.

So now you know where Kula Kula came from, and that Omar is not just a bird enthusiast but quite the artist…and is one punny guy.

Watch Kula Kula on season 42 of Survivor, Wednesdays at 8pm ET on CBS.
