‘Survivor 42’ spoilers find that it was mere seconds between the Taku tribe and Ika when it came to losing the reward/immunity challenge during season 42’s second episode. Ika’s blindfolded team slid in the last puzzle piece to take second place and guarantee immunity a heartbeat before Tuku, sending the orange team to visit host Jeff Probst at tribal council for the first time, to lose their second tribesman.
Marya Sherron was the third person to leave the game with a unanimous vote when her Shot in the Dark didn’t pan out, but as she slid into the night, her freshly lit torch snuffed out before it could blacken, viewers wanted to know one thing…did she get the closure she so desperately sought?
‘Survivor 42’ Spoilers: Did Marya Sherron Get The Closure She Needed Before Leaving The Island?
Earlier in the episode, Marya spoke about her brother, Kious Kelly– an assistant nursing manager at Mount Sinai West in New York. Kious was the first medical professional to die from Covid, which he caught while saving other’s lives.
Marya showed her tribemates a necklace with a picture of her brother engraved on it which Marya planned to bury in Fiji in hopes to gain closure regarding his tragic death. Kious was the one to encourage Marya to stop planning out her life and grab a hold of the opportunities that came her way- like landing a spot in the World’s greatest game, Survivor (no one is biased here), and Marya found the burial of the necklace would be a fitting tribute- especially as she no longer had to be strong about Kious’ death for her family.
And the she was voted out.
Marya has spoken to TV Line saying she did not get the chance to have her private tribute ceremony (though CBS did pay tribute to all health and front line workers after the credits), but that it’s all okay…in fact, it was better this way.
On the show Marya had said the closure was worth more than the $1 million grand prize, but she has since changed her tune saying, “What I did learn was that I don’t need closure. It’s something you hear and something you say, but to really think about that now, what does that mean? That I closed the door? No! I want him with me.”
The teacher and mom continued, “I was looking for the wrong thing. I didn’t really know what I was looking for, but not having the closure turned out to be the gift. That’s pretty ironic because that’s what I was going for, but that wasn’t it.”
Marya also revealed she is working on a project to properly tell the story of Kious’ life and death. “There’s so much [to tell]” Marya said. “There’s not any one thing. He was an amazing nurse, literally gave the coat off his back to a homeless person who was in the hospital and wouldn’t leave because it was cold outside. He was that person. He was the best human being I will ever know in life. But his life, like all of us, was textured. He was a professional dancer before he became a nurse, and I think that’s where it overlaps with Survivor. He just went for his dreams.”
Marya did not reveal any more about the project, but we are guessing we will be seeing news about a book release soon.
Survivor airs Wednesdays on CBS at 8pm ET
