Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died Saturday morning after he was hit by a dump trump while walking on South Florida highwal. Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lr. Indiana Miranda confirmed the accident that happened on westbound Interstate 595 and that Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s unknown still why Haskins was walking on the highway. “He was just walking on the highway and got hit,” Miranda told the press.

Haskins was in South Florida with other Steelers quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers for training.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin released a statement saying,

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins. He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken.“

After an incredible standout season at Ohio State in 2018, Haskins was picked 15th overall in the NFL draft where he spent two rocky seasons with the Washington Commanders before signing with Pittsburgh before last season. However, he was poised to learn as much from Ben Roethlisberger as possible and start the next part of his career in Pittsburgh.

Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert both praised Haskins for his improvement and they resigned him to a one-year deal in Match where he was expected to compete with Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky for the starting spot.

    Rest in peace Dwayne.

    He was just 24-years-old.
