Neil Young‘s music is no longer streaming on Spotify, and he can thank himself for that fact. Shortly after demanding Spotify choose between himself or Joe Rogan and his podcast, Spotify has sided with Rogan and removed Young’s music from their platform.

In a letter to his managers, Young wrote, “They can have Rogan or Young. No both.” To no ones surprise, Spotify chose their cash cow that they paid $100 for, and Young is gone now.

However, SiriusXM is seizing the opportunity this week, announcing it’s relaunching their Neil Young Radio, a channel that does nothing but plays his music 24/7.

However, Young’s music can still be found on other platforms, but it is completely hilarious that he singlehandedly got himself removed from one of the biggest music streaming platforms by giving them an ultimatum. Young comes off as a cranky old man with this move. While he’ll be fine and will have his SiriusXM channel back, it still looks like it was a bad move.

At the same time, Young still won at a point. While Spotify may not have removed Rogan from their platform due to his “Covid stance”, they did actually remove 20,000 clips containing false COVID-19 information since the start of the pandemic. While we don’t know what these clips were and how they were “misinformation”, it’s clear that they’re standing behind Rogan which is good news for millions of listeners.

Meanwhile, if you’re a Neil Young fan, and a Spotify member, you’ll have to go elsewhere for your Neil jams. Though, I’m not sure there are many Spotify members who listen to Neil Young in 2022.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Neil Young and what did you think about his ultimatum? Did Spotify make the right choice? Let us know in the comments below.
