Legendary rock musician Neil Young has reportedly posted a letter to his management team that he wants his music pulled from Spotify because it is providing a platform for podcaster Joe Rogan to spread COVID-19 vaccine misinformation.
Rolling Stone reported Young’s letter, however, the post has since been deleted. Young reportedly wrote that he wants Spotify to “know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
Old Man Yells At Clouds – Neil Young Threatens To Pull Songs Off Spotify Over Joe Rogan: “They Can Have Rogan Or Young. Not Both”
He continued that Spotify has a “responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform.” As we know, Rogan has his incredibly popular podcast through Spotify now and has become the target of many attacks over his content, both from listeners and workers inside the company.
Before Young, it was reported last week that over 270 medical professionals signed an open letter that asked Spotify to “take actions against mass-misinformation events” on its platform after Rogan’s podcast with Dr. Robert Malone. However, it was discovered that many of the “270” signees were not medical doctors. In a not-so-surprising twist, Spotify decided to give in to Young, and has sided with Rogan. Of course this comes as no surprise, considering they signed a 100-million dollar deal with Joe Rogan.
Rolling Stone pointed out that several years ago Young removed most of his music from Spotify because he thought the sound quality was lacking. While he went back on that, it looks like this is just another attempt to either get more money or make a little bit of noise for himself to up his numbers. Either way, it’s unlikely this will phase Rogan and he’ll probably be joking about it on his next podcast.
I wonder if Young will follow through this time and remove his music. I’m willing to bet this is just him beating on his chest to try to get some attention.
