Brandon Marshall, an ex-Denver Broncos teammate of Demaryius Thomas says his number should be retired. Marshall spoke to TMZ saying,

“It’s just fitting, it just makes sense. [He’s] one of the greatest Broncos ever. He’s one of the greatest Broncos of all-time, point blank, period. He’s one of the greatest receivers of my era — of our generation. One of the greatest receivers in Broncos history.”

Marshall is making the effort to get his former team to make the tribute to Thomas by hanging up his number in their ring of honor.

There isn’t a jersey retirement in the card yet, but the Broncos already have plans to pay tribute to the former Super Bowl champion before the Detroit Lions game this weekend, regardless.

Head coach Vic Fangio said the team will wear decals on their helmets and play a tribute video before kick-off. There will also be a moment of silence.

Thomas was found dead in his home Thursday night at the young age of 33. Police say they found him in his shower in Roswell, Georgia. A car accident in 2019 is said to have been a factor in his death as he had been dealing with long-term lingering medical effects.

Retiring #88 on the Broncos seems like the right thing to do. Not just because Thomas passed, but because of the mark he left. He recorded 9.763 receiving yards, with 63 touchdowns in his career. As well as scoring a record 14 touchdowns with Peyton Manning in 2013, when Manning threw his record 55 touchdowns.

He wasn’t just a great player, but a great person. Retiring his number shouldn’t even be a question.
