It was a long time coming, but she’s finally a free woman. Britney Spears couldn’t help but exclaim that it was the “best day ever” after a judge ruled to end the 13 year conservatorship that her father Jamie Spears had over her life. Here’s what you need to know.
Just last week reports said that a judge formally brought Britney’s conservatorship to an end, giving her full control of her life, her finances and her personal decisions again. Britney Spears wrote on Instagram, “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen.”

As many fans know by now, the case was propelled into international recognition by the #FreeBritney movement, many of whom were outside court in Los Angeles on Friday for the hearing.
If that weren’t enough, Britney also shared a video of her fans outside her court and wrote, “Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy.
Judge Brenda J Penny listened to 30 minutes of testimony before delivering her decision. The judge said an accountant serving as a temporary conservator should retain some powers, but added the complex legal arrangement is “effective today… thereby terminated.”
The decision to end the arrangement closed one of the most controversial chapters in modern pop music history and handed Spears the keys to her estimated 60 million dollar estate. Now, as far as what Britney plans on doing next with her life, remains to be seen.
