Christina Aguilera has been a little low-key in the mainstream since leaving The Voice. However, she’s been busy. Not only did she host a Masterclass on singing on the learning platform, but she also has been collaborating with Latin artists and Great Big World on their tracks, and returned to where it all started when she did the theme for the new Mulan as well as re-recording “Reflection”. But she’s about to get back into the album release grove with her first release since Liberation. Let’s talk the new song and what she’s saying about it.
Christina Aguilera Is Back!
After a tour for Liberation, a Vegas gig, a Disney special, and a recent special performance with Los Angeles Philharmonic, she’s ready to get back on the radio. This time, though, her sound’s going to be a bit different than most of her albums. This upcoming release will be her first Spanish record in 20 years, a follow-up to Mi Reflejo.
To promote the project, she just released a music video called Pa’ Mis Muchachas. The title translates to, “For My Girls” and we guess you probably know what it’s about. The female empowerment song features several other female artists, reminiscent of Aguilera’s participation in “Lady Marmalade” years ago.
Christina Aguilera scores a win
In our opinion, this track is a winner. The sound is slightly different than a lot of what we’ve heard released lately, while not being too out there. According to Aguilera, her new project will explore the different facets of Latin music and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead.
The song might be talking about being empowered and being taught to be that way through family, it’s got a pretty laidback sound overall that you want to dance to. And Aguilera’s vocals are just as good as they were on her debut Spanish release 20 years ago.
Christina Aguilera on new music
According to the singer, “This album is a coming-full-circle moment for me. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for so many years. I have an amazing team behind me that’s so supportive.”
In a Billboard interview, she had nothing but praise for her fellow artists Nathy Peluso, Becky G and Nicki Nicole. She also spoke a bit about the fear involved in the project and part of the inspiration for getting past that fear to embrace her roots again.
Said Aguilera of her kids and putting herself back into the Latin Music scene, “I want them to see that mommy doesn’t know everything. I’m still learning too and I’m not going to back down from something I’m truly passionate about because I’m scared or I’m afraid what people will think.”
We love the message, and are curious to see if the rest of this project is going to be as good as her first one.
