Anti-Monarchy Billboards Spark Backlash In Wales

So, does this mean that he’s not welcomed at the local pubs? There are new reports that say anti-monarchy billboards are popping up all over Wales. They feature Prince Charles’ image along with the words “Wales doesn’t need a prince,” both in Welsh and in English.

A Republic campaign group has raised thousands of pounds by promoting the message that “the monarchy is wrong in principle” with a series of billboards going up across Wales. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, the  group said they want the nation to hear their message that the Royal Family is “wrong in principle” and should be abolished in favour of an elected head of state. The billboards have been placed in cities such as Portsmouth, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Republic’s CEO, Graham Smith, said: “We have been campaigning for the abolition of the monarchy for a long time, but now we are at a crossroads. As the Queen’s reign draws to an end, it is time to demand a say in who should be our head of state.”

He added: “The royals are on a collision course with British values. The 2020s should be the decade when we finally get to decide who we have as our elected head of state.”

So far Prince Charles himself has not made any comments about the matter, but whether or not he will plan a visit to Wales anytime in the near future remains to be seen.
