Another day, another royal scandal. This time around it has to do with Prince Charles, who was forced to deny any knowledge of the ‘cash for honors’ scandal involving his right-hand-man, Michael Fawcett. Fawcett was forced to step down from his role as CEO of The Prince’s Foundation as he is being accused of using his position and influence to help Saudi businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz obtain an honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

The Sunday Times says Prince Charles personally bestowed the award to Mahfouz at a private ceremony in 2016 at Buckingham Palace. Yet, the ceremony was not published on the official list of royal engagements.

And now Clarence House – the official residence of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles – has released a statement in regards to the matter, stating that Prince Charles had no prior knowledge of the scandal.

The statement reads: “The Prince of Wales has no knowledge of the alleged offer of honours or British citizenship on the basis of donation to his charities and fully supports the investigation now underway by The Prince’s Foundation.”

Many people have taken to their social media accounts to comment on the matter with, “I’m sure that’s true but inside voices from his business and charity empire say he demands detailed briefings and effectively takes all major decisions himself,” along with, “It enlarges suspicion to everyone otherwise that something is not quite in order and ought to be proved otherwise. We need complete honesty in whether this honour was awarded in the correct way & no money given.”

Another critic wrote, “So a future king running an institution but he has no idea what is actually happening. What a weak statement. How is this a future king who doesn’t even know they’re using his name to sell access.”
