In another move in moving a little more towards normalcy (or at least anything that was normal before the ongoing pandemic that has been Covid took over the world), there are new reports that say the changing of the guard has returned to Windsor Castle for the first time since March 2020. Here’s what you need to know.

The ceremony was stopped to avoid gatherings of the public and to help stop the spread of Covid-19. Instead, and during the pandemic, an “Administrative Guard Mount” was in operation where soldiers took up their sentry duty positions but ceremonies were not carried out as they changed over.

The Army’s Household Division also mounts the Queen’s Guard at the Tower of London, as well as performing ceremonial duties at Trooping the Color and the State Opening of Parliament.

Hundreds of tourists were in the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch as the Changing of the Guard ceremony was staged for the first time since last March. Arrangements are being made to resume the traditional spectacle at Buckingham Palace, too.

During the pandemic, Queen Elizabeth spent most of her time at Windsor while Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles were at their private estate in Scotland.

Prince William and Kate Middleton stayed home in Norfolk with their children while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been in California ever since they stepped down as full-time working members of the royal family.
