Julia Quinn, the author of the wildly successful Bridgerton books is mourning the passing of her father and sister who died in a car accident that happened on June 29.

Quinn announced the sad news a week later on her official Facebook page.

Quinn’s father, Stephen Colter and sister, Ariana Colter came to a stop on the highway when a catering company failed to secure some canvas bags which spilled out onto the road and spread across the highway.

A pick-up driver, who was 3 times this legal drinking limit did not stop and rear ended the Colters in their car, killing two of the car’s occupants, along with Ariana’s service dog, Michelle.  Two more occupants in the Colter’s car and one occupant of another vehicle were hospitalized as a result of the multi-car accident.

Like his daughter, Julia, Stephen Colter was an author who was best known for writing the Cheesie Mack book series. Ariana who goes by Violet Charles was a successful cartoonist.

Quinn wrote on her Facebook post that she and her sister had just finished writing a graphic novel. It was, and still is dedicated to their father.

Quinn wrote that the graphic novel’s dedication “won’t be a surprise anymore, but I’d like to think he suspected we’d do it. He knew us so well. He was our dad.”

The drunk-driver has been charged criminal homicide.

Quinn’s Bridgerton novels are all best-sellers and the adaptation by Shonda Rhimes (of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal fame) for Netflix, which dropped on Christmas day 2020, became an instant hit. The Netflix series earning critical acclaim and becoming the most-watched series on the streaming site.

Rhimes was quoted as saying she knew the instant she read Quinn’s Bridgerton novels that they would captivate a viewing audience and that she wanted to adapt them for television.

The second season of Bridgerton is currently in production and the salacious series was recently renewed for a third and fourth season.
