The Daytime Emmys are Friday, and the soap world is getting ready for the big day. In particular, Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson (Jason Morgan/Damien Spinelli, General Hospital) have a Port Chuck reunion planned for the day after.
They’ve also been counting down to the big event with special episodes of “That’s Awesome” focusing on the ceremony. Co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) also did some chatting with a reporter about a recent storyline, while Days of Our Lives star Victoria Konefal (Ciara Brady) is also interviewed in anticipation of the ceremony. Let’s see what these stars revealed.
The Daytime Emmys are Awesome
First, let’s take the Steve and Bradford podcast. The Daytime Emmys has been a topic, as they’ve also had Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Facloneri, GH) on to talk about the event and their reel.
Their more recent guests were GH stars Katelyn MacMullen (Willow Tait) and Carolyn Hennesey (Diane Miller). In the chat with Katelyn, Burton marveled over the evolution of MacMullen’s character and performance while also poking a little fun.
She was teased about lying to a dying man as well as pointing out some similarities between her character’s situation then and now. MacMullen revealed how exciting it is to be nominated, while also talking a bit about her personal life.
As for Hennesey, we learned a big part of her reel centers around the Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) intervention. She definitely worked those scenes and we think she’s got a good chance to win.
The conversation soon turned to the audition world, particularly how the process for commercials has changed. She stated her preference for doing it the old-fashioned way when it comes to bigger parts/projects, but she and Anderson both agree it’s easier to audition from home for commercials right now.
Even though the absence of small talk coming into the room has freed up time, leading to more people being considered for each part.
The Daytime Emmys owned?
If there’s anyone we think can dominate in the men’s categories, it’s GH. Benard and Max Gail (Mike Corbin) are both nominated in the Best Actor and Supporting Actor categories, respectively. The Alzheimer’s storyline was so moving, we think it would be an injustice for anyone else to come away with those wins.
Benard himself opened up about the storyline and his initial reaction. After reading with Gail, Benard broke down. He said he didn’t see how he’d be able to do this story, and that initial emotion is noticeable in each scene they did.
