Maurice Benard’s State of Mind brought a bit of nostalgia this week for fans. His guest is a former GH actor, as well as an author and more. Let’s talk about the guest, his work, and the chat. Plus, fans had a little something extra to enjoy this week, as Benard uploaded a short video with Max Gail (Mike Corbin) as well. Here’s what you need to know.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: The Guest

We know Maurice Benard’s State of Mind is no stranger to the soap world. This week, he welcomes Sean Kanan, who played A.J. Quartermaine on the show.

The chat got off to a fun start when Benard revealed Kanan was one of the first people he met on the show, as well as getting into the hate he received for shooting A.J.

We weren’t watching yet when that happened, but we can just imagine how crazy that time was. Just going back as far as they did during the shutdown showed how good the show was and how many big emotional moments there were. But the GH talk moved on quickly.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Transformational Time

Kanan, who also created the show Studio City, talked about how he used his Cobra method to his advantage to create change in his life. He cited weight loss, a second book (a best-seller, no less), and his new show getting off the ground in just one year.

Both in the show and on the book’s site, he stresses he’s not out there to brag. He’s just trying to share methods that worked for him and show how transformational they can be.

During the book talk, he talked about the bullying he dealt with as a child and how it shaped him as he got older. He talked about how this translated to his acting by making his push a bit too hard in scenes. He also revealed a trauma he experienced as a child, as well as an experience in Hollywood Benard could relate to.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Comeback

One of the more interesting parts of the chat relates to his work in Karate Kid 3. He spoke about the circumstances that took this experience from disappointment to excitement, as well as a life-threatening situation. We loved the obvious determination he had at the time to keep going and finish the film.

Another great part is where he spoke about how terrible human beings are as historians and how we tend to tell ourselves stories. Check out the chat to see what he has to say about these stories and how we can use them for something positive.

She’s a recent Days of Our Lives convert, having grown up on the nighttime shows of the '90s. She’s also an accomplished writer in many fields, including paranormal fiction. Jamie loves the crazy twists that Soap Opera writers come up with, even though she's sometimes yelling at the characters. As a published and accomplished writer, she knows how to get into the minds of the writers and is usually bang on in predicting plot twists before they come to life. When she’s not writing for Daily Soap Dish, Jamie binge watches telenovelas as a way to improve her Spanish. They also fuel her muse, which tends to upset her readers.
