It looks like Prince Harry did get his royal allowance after all. Despite telling Oprah Winfrey that his father had cut him off financially, there’s a new report that suggests Prince Charles did pay a “substantial sum” to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Read on for everything you need to know.
Clarence House’s accounts for 2020-21 show that Prince Charles’ private income paid several millions towards the running of the households of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Prince Charles Continued To Financially Support Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Post-Megxit
A spokesperson for Clarence House dismissed rumors that Charles is a bitter dad who refuse to help out his adult son and his wife by giving them a little extra cash on the side, to the tune of several million pounds.
A new statement even says: “As we’ll all remember in January 2020 when the duke and duchess announced that they were going to move away from the working Royal Family. The duke said that they would work towards becoming financially independent.”
The statement also said, “The Prince of Wales allocated a substantial sum to support them with this transition. That funding ceased in the summer of last year. The couple are now financially independent.”
When asked about Prince Harry’s accusations about his financial arrangements with his father, the spokesperson said, “I wouldn’t acknowledge that they are dramatically different. All I can tell you are the facts. I betray no confidence when I say they’ve been very successful in becoming financially independent.”
So far Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not made any additional comments about the matter.
