Australia Casts Brooke Blurton As First Bisexual Bachelorette: Both Men and Women Will Vie for Her Roses!

Australia has made Bachelor history by casting its first openly bisexual lead and selecting a mixed-gendered cast to share a mansion as they vie for her roses and her heart!

26-year-old Brooke Blurton, will not only be the first bisexual Bachelorette to helm ANY Bachelor franchise worldwide, she is also the first Indigenous Australian to jump into the lead role.

“I am so ready for this,” Blurton said. “Having the opportunity to choose my person and who I want in my life, is a truly unique and special experience.”

The Perth native isn’t so sure Australia is ready, though. However, she will not allow haters to hold her back.

“If it makes people feel uncomfortable in any way, I really challenge them to think about why it does,” she said.

This won’t be the first go around within the Bachelor universe for the youth worker, speaker and mental health advocate. Blurton was  a contestant on the 2018 season of Bachelor Australia, where she competed for the heart of former Australian rugby union player and ‘undies’ model, Nick Cummins- also known as Honey Badger.

Blurton quit unexpectedly when it got down to the final three. Honey Badger did not choose either of his remaining two women. Blurton was next seen on Australia’s Bachelor In Paradise.

It’s assumed that Australia’s Bachelor producers are hoping the familiar, and popular face will help ease audiences into what will be a highly controversial season.

Osher Günsberg, the ‘Chris Harrison’ of Australia (without the racism undertones) made a statement about Bachelor Australia’s casting of their first bisexual and indigenous lead, saying: “We are a nation of people from so many different backgrounds, so many different cultures and so many different experiences, yet we all have one thing in common – we all want to be loved in a way that is meaningful to us. I can’t wait to get started on helping our Bachelorette Brooke find that kind of love.”

It’s not the first time the idea of having a bisexual lead has been floated, but the idea was usually cast aside out of fear that contestants in the mansion will start hooking up with each other rather than ‘saving themselves’ for the lead.

This already happened between two women on Bachelor Vietnam who left the show together and Bachelor Australia, where two contestants entered into a relationship after they both left the show.

Of course, another reason a bisexual lead has never been cast is out of fear conservative audiences aren’t ready to see women dating women.

Welp, it seems Australia doesn’t care…and that is awesome!

So, while the Land Down Under is out there blasting through barriers, the US still can’t figure out how to include people of color without the world crumbling around them.

Here’s hoping there will be a way we can all catch this groundbreaking season of The Bachelorette Australia, it seems the rest of the world could do a lot of watching and learning from the Aussies.
