HBO Max’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ is coming this month and we got another look behind-the-scenes at what went into creating something like it. The combat in the video games is obviously very brutal and gory, so how did they recreate it for the film? The answer… real-life badasses!

Real martial artists and athletes like Lewis Tan and Joe Taslim bring a degree of realism and brutality to the roles in ways that perhaps a normal actor couldn’t. In the video below, director Simon McQuoid talks about the journey to bring the characters to life and casting had to be perfect!

“Director Simon McQuoid discusses the journey of bringing the Mortal Kombat characters to life by casting the right talent to execute the epic fight scenes. McQuoid and the cast go into detail about the extreme physical and athletic challenges needed to portray their characters, with behind-the-scenes commentary from Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Lewis Tan, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.”

The video showcases the talents of everyone involved and how a lot of them are performing their own stunts! We are definitely in for a treat when this film finally releases and will surely be one for the record books. Not just for a video game film, but all action films in general!

‘Mortal Kombat’ looks like it was in the best of hands with the director and actors, and we can’t wait for them to bring these characters to life later this month!

HBO Max’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ releases in just a few weeks on April 23!
