He was always by her side through the good times, the bad times, the great times, and the downright ugly times. In fact, there’s a new report that says Prince Philip was always a model husband to his wife Queen Elizabeth, as he remained by her side throughout her long reign.
Prince Philip also supported his wife in everything as a consort, according to one royal author. Here’s what you need to know. Royal author and expert Leslie Carroll tells Fox News in a new interview that Queen Elizabeth couldn’t have had a better husband by her side during these last seven decades that they were together.
Prince Philip Was Always A Model Husband To Queen Elizabeth
The royal couple met when Prince Philip was 18 and Queen Elizabeth was just 13. And while the royal couple certainly had their fair share of ups and downs, Caroll says that Prince Philip was very much the ideal husband, simply because he was willing to give up some of the most important things in his life in order to make his marriage to the most important person in the monarchy work.
“He also gave up the only other thing he loved besides his wife and queen – his career as a naval officer,” said Carroll. “[But] his passion for the sea never left him, however land-bound he became,” she continued.
“That night in London’s Guildhall – a building built in 1440 that stands as a reminder that ‘there will always be an England’ – the duke was master and commander again; but this time on behalf of the charitable organization that brings comfort to those former seafarers who find themselves cast upon financial shoals.”
What’s more, Carroll also said that she’s not surprised Prince Philip made it this far.
“I somehow irrationally expected that even at 99, Prince Philip would still be with us,” Carroll admitted. “Her Majesty writes a personal letter to every subject who reaches his or her 100th birthday. I’d really been looking forward to imagining what little emendation she would add to her husband’s letter in June. Sadly, we’ll never find out.”
Prince Philip is survived by the queen, 94, their four children, as well as eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
