’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers reveal it is complained about within the 90 day fiancé fandom that none of the American cast members bother to learn how to speak the language of their loved ones’ native homelands, which makes communication difficult.
Granted, it’s a bit better in The Other Way but there are still instances of the American fiance not being able to speak the language, like Kenny Neidermeyer, he’s still learning Spanish and a lot of the time Armando has to speak for him when it comes to translating for his family.

But apparently this wasn’t the case with Steven and Alina. Now, it was said previously that Steven and Alina met on a language app, so it’s not surprising that he would know at least some of the language, but I, along with the rest of the family, was amazed to hear him discussing things proficiently in Russian with Alina’s Mom when asking for her blessing for Alina’s hand in marriage.
(He’s still got to convince Alina though, she says she doesn’t know if she’s ready for a wedding. Woops! And her Mom doesn’t seem to be too sold on the idea either.) As creepy and awkward as Steven is most of the time, we kind of have to give him props for at least taking the time to learn the language before he dated a girl from a foriegn country.
Same goes for Ariela, last year she was pretty bad at Ahmaric, but this year she seems to be doing a lot better, even wrote down some little vows for Biniyam before she left on her trip to the states with Avi, which was kind of sweet and really, really thoughtful.
Her language level has improved a lot, so we have to give credit where credit is due here… even though she was probably saying very simple things, it’s enough to be able to communicate, since they had so much trouble in their first year together.
Third place out of The Other Way would be Corey, it seems he does know a decent amount of Spanish but that’s not enough to redeem his playboy act, looks like Evelin may just be done with him for good. Still, it’s certainly a breath of fresh air to watch the Americans actually be culturally sensitive (well… halfway) for once. Stay tuned!!!
