90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days‘ Niles Valentine managed to find a new job, which he has been working at since January 2024, after marrying Matilda in the show’s season 7. Niles had met Matilda on social media and proposed to her through a video call.
Niles would then meet Matilda for the first time in person, promising to marry her during that trip. However, Niles had been fired from his previous job as a peer advocate which resulted in several wedding finance issues.
Right before Niles was meant to fly to meet with Matilda, he received a termination letter from his job that wrecked all of his promises. Matilda wanted their wedding to happen during his trip to Ghana. This came with the promise that Niles would be financially stable enough to pay for the wedding and support her as her husband.
Despite Niles claiming that he isn’t financially ready for this wedding, he kept his termination a secret for quite a while. When Niles finally does tell Matilda, he proceeds to gaslight her by stating how he never agreed to marry her on that trip.
90 Day Fiancé: Niles’ Loan with his Father-in-Law
When Niles meets Matilda’s family, discussions about the wedding and knocking ceremony are immediate. Niles explains that he cannot afford to do the wedding right now and needs some time to generate the money for it.
However, the family doesn’t take too kindly to this, especially Matilda’s village elder, Mr. Arc. At this time, Niles apparently only had about $109 to his name! For both ceremonies, Niles would need about $400 as well as money for gifts, preparations, and more.
In desperation, Niles ends up asking for a loan from Mr. Arc to his pure shock. Mr. Arc would become Niles’ father when marrying Matilda, so this ask was a big deal. Not to mention that by giving a loan to Niles, Mr. Arc would be partially responsible if something bad were to happen at the wedding or to the couple.
Mr. Arc is dumbfounded at how Niles is marrying Matilda with little to no money. Despite this, he eventually agrees to the loan on the condition that Matilda immediately leaves for America with Niles.
90 Day Fiancé: Niles’ New Job
The threat of Niles not having money or a job while on the show looms over the couple, but this new job gives some hope. Niles has now worked for the Alabama Department of Mental Health for almost a year. This could mean that Niles has turned around his financial troubles which solves one part of his and Matilda’s problems.
While the money disputes could hopefully be over for them, there are still other possible relationship issues to discuss. The fact that Niles spent so long lying to Matilda’s face says a lot about how much he could lie to her in the future.
This is especially true if Niles ever messes up again and refuses to take responsibility like he did when gaslighting Matilda. Niles has a habit of bringing up his Autism as a way to deflect his mistakes, but this dishonesty could very well come up again.
