Blackfishing is a term that was coined by a journalist named Wanna Thompson in 2018. It is generally used to describe someone “accused of pretending to be Black on social media by using makeup, hair products, and in some cases, surgery to drastically change their appearance.” Viewers of 90 Day Fiancé have started to notice that Miona Bell is doing some blackfishing of her own. It is working for her though, it looks like she caught Jibri Bell by doing it.

When we look at Miona now, she looks like a beautiful, Black goddess. However, when we look at her pictures on social media, from just a few years ago, she looks as white as white can be. What happened and why is she already defending herself after only one episode of the show? This combo, along with her fiancé, Jibri, and his mother identifying as biracial has really left some viewers confused and furious.

Miona is all over social media and when she was asked about her racial background, she said she “didn’t want to spoil” the mystery about her race and heritage. Interestingly enough, Reddit users were all over doing their best sleuthing on her. They found photos of her from just a few years ago when she was pale and white and had long straight hair. There were no curls to be found like on many of her pictures now. In one of her pictures from a few months ago, she was shown with brown skin and curly brown hair. The caption of the photo was, “Natural body.” This made a lot of viewers laugh because there is nothing natural about this girl, especially not her skin tone!
Do we need a little geography lesson? Serbia, if you are not aware, is located in southeastern Europe. It was part of Yugoslavia for most of the 20th century and Serbians are of Slavic origin. With over 8.5 million people that live there, almost none of them are Black. So what is the deal here?
There have been plenty of rumors that this couple got married in or before 2020 and that their story is all scripted. There are even rumors that JIbri has been in Serbia so much that he even used an alias there- Jovan Crnovic. Why would he do that? Some say it was to seem more white because of the lack of Black people in Serbia.
