‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that it may be time for Roger Howarth to return to the show as Franco Baldwin. Frank Valentini recently spoke of a familiar face returning to GH and that it was a male.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Pairing of Franco And Liz Was Gold
Many of the characters who have been mentioned as a possible return include Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King), Julian Jerome (William DeVry), and Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig). But maybe it’s someone viewers may not expect.
As far as actors go, it doesn’t get much better than the uber-talented, extremely likable Roger Howarth. The show made a major mistake in letting him go.
The pairing of Franco and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) was gold. They had an extraordinary chemistry together. Liaison fans are hoping for a reunion between Liz and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), but Franco gave Liz more passion and made her far more interesting.
Rebecca Herbst is an outstanding actress, but her pairing with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and her character development since Franco died has been lackluster. She’s finally regaining her backbone, so bringing back Franco would be the perfect choice.
The only foreseeable issue is that Austin Gatlin’s murder was never solved, and many fans have pointed out that Roger should have never switched characters to begin with. Howarth became Franco and made him his own.
It wasn’t easy at times to care about Austin, but Roger is so brilliant and charismatic that it almost didn’t matter. The demise of Austin doesn’t appear to be a top priority of the PCPD. No one even seems to care that he’s gone.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Austin’s Murder Was Never Solved
It doesn’t look like anyone will be solving Austin’s murder anytime soon, but if Franco was brought back, it might make sense to finish the Austin storyline and finally put it to bed.
Interestingly, an interview Roger Howarth did when Austin was killed off hints that maybe the powers that be also have no idea who killed Austin.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest at the time, Howarth said he received a phone call from Frank (Valentini),
“He told me that when my contract was up at ABC, I would not be offered a new contract, and the character of Austin would be killed and that this was something that we both wanted and needed to do to move the story.”
That being said, what story? There was never a resolution to any of it. All we know is that Ava Jerome (Maura West) received a creepy Polaroid picture of Austin. We saw him lying on the floor, bleeding after he had been shot. Nothing much came from it.
Hopefully, the show wants to correct a very serious mistake and bring Franco back. But first, they should explain who killed Austin and why. Truthfully, Howarth should have just remained on GH as Franco.
Fans may argue that Franco did some evil things to other characters they care about. However, hasn’t every character done at least one distasteful thing?
Howarth made Franco’s redemption story totally believable. He was a fascinating character who never should have been killed off.
