Hollywood A-listers are fighting for the chance to bring the Britney Spears book to the big screen.
Reportedly, big names like Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Margot Robbie, and Shonda Rhimes are all interested in turning Britney’s best-selling tell-all memoir into a movie.
Britney Spears’s Team is Holding Off On Making a Decision
A source close to the “Toxic” hitmaker explains that “Britney Spears is overwhelmed by the response to her book’s October 24th release and the media frenzy surrounding it,” and her team is “holding off on making any major decisions about where the rights end up until she has time to catch her breath.”
Award-winning writer Shonda Rhimes, who wrote brilliant and captivating yet underrated gems such as “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder,” would be an intriguing choice.
Rhimes also wrote top-tier shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Bridgerton.” She would do the book and Britney justice if she could snatch up this project.
Rhimes is also connected to the “Baby One More Time” singer because she also wrote the screenplay for “Crossroads,” Britney’s first and only movie.
Shonda would be able to portray Britney honestly and powerfully. Shondaland would probably be the most cathartic choice for the pop star.
Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Productions and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are also vying to make this movie, as is Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.
Reese Witherspoon was reportedly the first choice to narrate Britney’s book. However, there was a scheduling conflict, so Britney chose Michelle Williams to read the chapters aloud to Britney’s fans.
The Project Is In Its Early Stages
A producer who previously worked with the “Everytime” singer explains that Britney doesn’t give a s**t who you are. She’s always been that way. It’s just Britney.”
Producers are empathetic toward Spears, taking her time deciding and figuring out what would be best for her. They are willing to wait for her to bring the book to life on the big screen.
The project is still in its early stages, and there may even be more offers to come. Britney reportedly rescheduled a meeting with an unnamed top Hollywood producer “at the last minute.”
Spears will only do what she feels comfortable with and may not be ready to make a deal. Britney is also in talks to make a documentary, which could earn her at least $40 million.
The pop princess’ book has sold over one million copies, and she is making millions of dollars. “The Woman in Me” contains bombshell revelations about her father and the conservatorship she was forced into.
Britney opens up about being thrown into hospitals against her will and how her family treated her during this time.
The biggest reveal in the book is that she was pregnant with Justin Timberlake’s baby. He didn’t want to be a father, so she had an abortion in 2000, at the height of her fame. The pair kept it secret for decades.
Writing this book allowed Britney Spears to tell her story on her terms and make peace with the past. When it comes to the big screen, it should be a tribute to Britney’s exceptional strength and courage and tell her story honestly.
