The comedian can’t be stopped. Jay Leno returned to the stage after being hospitalized for 10 days with third-degree burns on his face and hands. According to Entertainment Tonight, he was greeted by a sold-out crowd at Comedy Magic Club in California’s Hermosa Beach on Sunday night, where he earned a standing ovation.

Since he began anchoring the “Tonight Show” in 1992, Leno, 72, has performed practically every week at the club. According to an eyewitness, the comedian appeared to return in “good spirits” and was greeted with a “Welcome Back Jay” sign that also said “We Love You.” At the club, Leno was joined by his wife, Mavis Leno, and the venue owner.

Before going into his regular routine, he read a few new jokes from his phone and even made fun of the mishap. Arsenio Hall, who opened for Leno, told ET, “No comic would leave the Grossman burn center, and do standup Sunday in Hermosa,” he continued. “I lost my big toe nail after someone stepped on my foot at the Super Bowl last year. I canceled three standup dates after that.”

Leno, who immediately returned to the wheel following his vehicle fire, had previously stated that he’d be back on stage in no time. “[I’m] hanging in there. Everything’s fine,” he said last week.

He was released from the hospital last Monday after suffering injuries in a fire caused by a fuel leak and a simultaneous spark in one of his expensive cars. He had two grafting procedures to remove bad tissue and aid recovery, as well as multiple hyperbaric chamber treatments to reduce edema, boost blood flow, and kill bacteria.

Dr. Peter Grossman of the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles believes the former late-night host will recover. “As I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s going to be months. I think he’s the kind of guy who’s gonna move forward.”
