It looks like Michelle Obama‘s second memoir, “The Light We Carry” will be released today, Nov. 15th, 2022. In it, Obama details how she has learned to quiet her self-doubt amid an ever-changing world. Post-COVID, everything is so different now than what it was just two years ago, and while she doesn’t intend for her book to be a how-to, she definitely has some helpful tips within.

She says that strength is not just comprised of the physical, but also entails mental and emotional strength as well. This book details what is in her own mental health “toolbox” as it were in order to quiet “the fearful mind”.

The basics are very important to the former first lady, meaning, she monitors what she eats and how much sleep she gets. She says that getting enough sleep can affect how you move throughout the day. She also says that having a certain amount of routine and predictability in your daily life provides a level of comfort as well.

She says that she is not entirely sure of the chemical reasons behind that, but maintains that if she allows herself to wallow in her depression she just gets more depressed.

She offers some very simple advice for getting through these gray days, she says that getting “ready”, even if no one will see it but you, will improve your mood and reiterated the importance of getting enough sleep and how that will often affect one’s mood.

The former first lady says that when she was growing up, it wasn’t easy being the tall, opinionated girl and she had to fight in order to be heard because people were not eager to hear what she had to say. She says that the definition of strength is slowly changing and that now it includes being strong in heart, mind, and spirit as well as body.

For Obama, strength is more about resilience and adaptability than anything else. She says that, “All of us can be strong, no matter what we look like, so long as we’re always working toward that fortitude of mind, body and soul.” Inspirational words indeed. The Light We Carry releases today on Nov  15th, 2022. Stay tuned!!!
