“The Baddy” Paddy Pimblett gave a strong speech about mental health After his impressive victory at UFC Fight Night in London, disclosing that he only learned of his friend’s suicide on Friday. Pimblett defeated Jordan Leavitt by submission in the second round after a spirited struggle, but after momentarily celebrating, his demeanor quickly changed when speaking to Michael Bisping after the match. Paddy said,
“I woke up on Friday morning at 4 AM to a message that one of my friends back home had killed themselves. This is 5 hours before my weigh-in. So Ricky lad, that’s for you.“

Paddy continued to speak about the stigma about men talking about mental health,
“There’s a stigma in this world that men can’t talk. Listen, if you’re a man, and you’ve got weight on your shoulders, and if you think the only way you can solve it is by killing yourself, please speak to someone. Speak to anyone. People would rather, I know I rather they cry on my shoulder than go to his funeral next week. Men start talking.”
Then, Paddy, who was obviously overcome with emotion, fell to the canvas and sobbed before finally allowing himself to feel his friend’s loss. As he left the arena, Pimblett was in tears as the crowd applauded him on. He had also dedicated his fight to 4-year-old Baby Lee Hodgson, who tragically died from cancer last month.
Pimblett improved to 19-3 with the win and said that he will return to the Octagon before the end of the year. We look forward to seeing him back out in the cage for the next one. Watching him is incredible and he’s on a hell of a run.
