Democratic lawmakers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, both progressives, were detained on Tuesday outside the Supreme Court as they demonstrated against the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Although she was not in handcuffs, Ocasio-Cortez was seen being escorted away by police while walking with her hands crossed behind her back. She once raised her fists toward the other protesters while uncrossing her hands.
Omar was also captured on camera walking by herself while holding her hands together behind her back, appearing to be handcuffed even though she was not. Since Roe was overturned in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June, pro-abortion demonstrators have gathered in front of the Supreme Court almost daily.
According to Capitol Police, a total of 34 arrests were made at the demonstration on Tuesday, including 16 by members of Congress.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez HILARIOUSLY Pretends To Be In Handcuffs While Be Escorted By Police Away Outside The Supreme Court
“It is against the law to block traffic, so police are going to give our standard three warnings before they start making arrests,” Capitol Police tweeted ahead of the incident. The moment was captured on video and of course, has spurred a ton of comments calling her out for her ridiculousness.
According to U.S. Capitol Police, the demonstrators failed to follow their THREE warnings to stop blocking the street near the Supreme Court, and were then led away one by one after being ‘detained’. The lawmakers, AOC included, are expected to be released and fined for blocking the street.
We all have the right to protest, but the moment you start breaking the law is the moment it should be dealt with. Unfortunately for AOC and her posse, they broke the law. Will they learn? Probably not, but atleast we got a viral moment from it to laugh at.
