You will probably remember Dr. David Spiegel from the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard trial… The doctor that Heard’s team called in as an expert witness on psychiatry to examine Mr. Depp. However, what happened was a zoo and Spiegel immediately became a meme and was talked about for his bizarre mannerisms.
Notably, he said he examined Depp from his commercials and interviews, and never actually met him in person. Strange thing for a doctor to say, but he did it on the stand. He stand spoke about “processing speed” and how everyone was judging everyone else’s all the time.
AWKWARD Dr. David Spiegel Speaks Up About The Depp v. Heard Trial: “The Backlash Has Been Horrific”
Now that the trial is over he’s gone to Newsweek to publish an article entitled, “I Testified in the Heard vs. Depp Trial. The Backlash Has Been Horrific”. He opens the article by defending Amber Heard and says he is disappointed that she did not receive more support. Spiegel then states he’s been practicing psychiatry for 30 years and for the trial, was told it would be a closed-door trial with no cameras.
“But when I signed on initially, the impression I had was that it would be a closed trial; there wouldn’t be cameras and fans in court. Paparazzi outside the courthouse was never a problem, that’s something I can handle, but the situation obviously took a different turn once the trial became a national, televised event.”
Spiegel goes on to talk about the amount of hate he’s received online, “Never in my life have I been the target of such voluminous amounts of hate, ever. I will process the emotion, but it will always be there; the knowledge that I was on the receiving end of such venom.”
We would never condone threatening or attacking someone and are appalled at some of the messages he has received. We will say though, he acted extremely strange on the stand and for being an ‘expert’, didn’t seem like much of an expert while being asked questions.
