Just one day after their mother passed away, Wynonna Judd and Ashley Judd tearfully accepted the highest honor for their mother, Naomi Judd. Her death was very shocking to us all and it was heartbreaking to see the sisters accepting this award on behalf of their mother.
Country Music: The Tears and Sadness
When the women were in Nashville to take care of this award for her, they were in tears. Wynonna told fans, “I’m gonna make this fast because my heart’s broken- and I feel so blessed. I mean, it’s a very strange dynamic to be this broken and this blessed.” The women were there to get the Country Music Hall of Fame induction for their mother, Naomi.
Country Music: Judds at Hall Of Fame
They have told their fans that they lost their “beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness.” They mentioned that they were “shattered” by her death and it has been incredibly hard on them. Naomi had a singing career in country music that lasted for decades and at the induction, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It is clear that she had such an impact on other people’s lives.
Kyle Young, who is the CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, shared his thoughts to the crowd as well. He said, “They joined voices and they joined forced, and they sang in harmony even when they didn’t live in harmony.” He was, of course, speaking of Naomi and Wynonna’s career together. They didn’t see eye to eye on everything, but they always had love for one another and were an unstoppable musical force.
The Judds waited for years to be adding into the Country Music Hall of Fame and it was ironic that this was the year that they were added in. It was heartbreaking and amazing all at the same time.
Ashley even added, “I’m sorry that she couldn’t hang on until today.” Young added in, “We can’t ever know all their struggles, but we know all their songs. Their stories have been well documented, Naomi and Wynonna, a mother and daughter forced together and forged together. It’s all complicated- and it all emerged in beauty and triumph.”
Ricky Skaggs also gave his own words, “Blessed at those who mourn. Not only are we feeling and mourning your mom’s passing, but all country music and all of the people around the world that love your music and love the Judds are here praying for you guys and just saying, keep going, keep going. Don’t turn back.”
