No more details were provided when it came to the cause of death and a statement put out on behalf of Naomi’s husband, singer Larry Strickland warned that no further cause of death details would be released. Instead, the statement beseeched privacy for the family as they grieve.
The Kentucky-born, Grammy-winning country star had always been candid about her battle with mental illness.
The popular duo, The Judds, who dominated the country charts throughout most of the 1980’s had recently made a return to the stage after more than a decade away from the spotlight, performing at the CMT Music Awards earlier this month. They had just announced an arena tour to begin in September, their first tour together in more than ten years and were due to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday.
Along with Wynona, Ashley and Larry, country fans and fellow artists are also in mourning. Fellow country music icons like Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Casey Musgrave and Maren Morris have all left tributes to the country legend on Instagram and Twitter.
Recently 53 year old Ashley suffered a near fatal accident while hiking in the jungles of The Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Double Jeopardy star equated much of her recovery to her mother’s loving care.
R.I.P Naomi.
